I am pleased to report that, on the 2nd November, the College of Policing Professional Committee formally endorsed two validated treadmill tests as the best available alternative fitness tests to the 15-metre Multistage Fitness Test (15m MSFT), as applied for the job related fitness test (JRFT) and specialist roles.
In light of this decision, the National Fitness Testing Working Group (FTWG) Chaired by ACC Jo Shiner who leads the national fitness testing portfolio, is revising the implementation guidance currently issued on the College of Policing website. However, in order for forces to begin to prepare their local policies and risk assessments, details of the endorsed tests is outlined in Annex A of this letter.
While recognising that implementation remains a local decision, Forces are encouraged to utilise these validated tests, recognising the significant work conducted to ensure validation with the 15m MSFT. The full research paper, conducted by Chester University, which underpins this validation will also be circulated following further evaluation by the College of Policing.
If you have any queries regarding this guidance then please contact Matt Johnston at firstname.lastname@example.org.
